Your Questions Answered

This post is to give links to additional information about childhood vaccinations.

Vaccination Information Sheets
This link has down loadable sheets for the most common diseases we give immunizations for. The CDC issued these sheets to explain the benefits and risks of a vaccine to a recipient and their legal guardian.

2009 Child & Adolescent Immunization Schedules
This link shows what types of vaccinations a child needs and when they need them. There are additional links on the same page about receiving multiple vaccinations and vaccine safety.

Free and Low Cost Vaccines
Vaccines might not be considered easy accessible because of their price. There are programs to give vaccinations for underprivileged families for free or at a discounted rate. "Vaccines for Children (VFC) provides free vaccines to eligible children, including those without health insurance coverage, all those who are enrolled in Medicaid, American Indians and Alaskan Natives and those whose health insurance dues does not cover vaccines."

Other places, like your local Walgreens, provide many shots for a discounted rate. You can get a flu shot for $24.99 at Walgreens today!

I definately think the benefits outweigh the risks. Think of the problems we could face
if we didn't use vaccines? Side effects and allergic reactions seem to be minimal when
you look at the whole picture. People should educate themselves and decide based on
evidence rather than the word of celebrities which is often the case (ie Jenny
McCartney.) Celebrities are not scientists! I have no problem vaccinating my daughter
because I know much worse could happen if I don't!

  2. Nice video! I liked the analogy between letting kids be exposed to allergens on the carpet floor and how similiar it really is to exposing the child to a vaccine. I can appreciate parents who want their children to develop and grow naturally, but helping nature out a little bit is okay. Not only is it safer in protecting one's own children but it also protects other kids around too. Its like washing your hands frequently, or coughing into your sleeve instead of your hands. Or exercising to promote good cardiovascular health! Its better to do what you can to PREVENT illness than to suffer through treating it.

  3. also if you go to your local county health department you can get vaccines for really cheap! in some cases even cheaper than insurance. I had insurance as a kid but my mom still took my brother and i to the health department because it was even cheaper than getting them at the doctors office.
